Tree work in Weyba Downs
Mangrove foreshore and a park that has burnt
On Lake Weyba Drive, council's Lake Weyba Foreshore park forms part of Lake Weyba Bushland Reserve, and its trail follows the lake's edge through wetlands, mangroves and coastal bushland. Trees near the foreshore are worked from the private side, so where cut timber is stacked and which way any machine comes in are settled before the first cut, and nothing is dropped into the reserve or the lake.
The West Weyba section of Noosa National Park reaches into Weyba Downs. Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service maps a wildfire of about 306.6 hectares in Noosa National Park that started in January 1992. That history is why the trees around homes on the park edge are worth getting into shape before each fire season.

Weyba Downs questions
Planned burns in the West Weyba section
How big are the burns in the national park?
The state's fire history records a planned burn of about 9.1 hectares in the West Weyba section in June 2019. In 2026 it shows a planned burn of about 140.3 hectares in the same section. Burn days and the smoke after them can stop work near the park, so a job on that edge is dated around them.
Is the ground by the lake too soft for machines?
Often, yes. Council says the foreshore trail is subject to seasonal inundation and tides, and walkers have found it boggy in patches after rain. Trees on ground like that root shallowly and a loaded truck can sink, so near the lake the timber is climbed and lowered in sections, and mats go under any machine.
