Tree work in Kin Kin
Hill roads, big gardens and a protected creek
Noosa Plan 2020's Hinterland Villages code describes Kin Kin as a small rural village in a scenic, secluded location amongst the hills. The drive in is on hill roads and yards often slope, so the truck, the chipper and any elevated platform are matched to the access before a booking is made.
Once on the block, there is usually room to work. The plan's residential zone puts the village's rural character down to large allotment sizes with ample space for gardens and outdoor living, which often leaves space to park a chipper or stump grinder near the tree and to lower limbs onto open lawn instead of rigging them over a roof.
The creek is where the rules tighten. The code expects development to protect riparian vegetation adjacent to Kin Kin Creek and its tributaries, so on a block that runs down to the water or into a gully, work tied to a development approval leans toward pruning and making trees safe, and the bank stays planted.

How it works
What happens after you get in touch
The council question is answered before the price, and nothing is booked until you have the quote in writing and have said yes to it.
- 1
Tell us about the tree
The suburb, what the tree stands near and what you would like done with it.

- 2
Someone comes to look
A tree contractor who covers your area sees the tree, the access and whatever is underneath it.

- 3
The council position is checked
Lot size, how close the tree is to the house and the mapping on the block decide whether an application comes first.

- 4
Quoted in writing
Scope, timber, stump and date set out on one page. Nothing is booked until you accept it.

Kin Kin questions
Owl country, a rare tree and Sister Tree Creek
Why does wildlife shape a tree job here?
Because the village sits beside protected habitat. In March 2026 Noosa Council secured a 121 hectare Kin Kin property for permanent conservation, land within a key wildlife corridor on the Cootharaba Range that shelters powerful owls among other animals. A tree with hollows, or with signs that animals use it, is left until it has been checked.
Can a yard tree be a threatened species?
It can. Opposing a 2023 bid to clear more than eight hectares at the Kin Kin quarry, Noosa Council named koalas, greater gliders and scrub turpentine among the threatened flora and fauna at risk. Scrub turpentine is the plant on that list, so an unfamiliar tree near a gully is identified before anyone cuts it.
What happens to creek-side trees after a flood?
They are checked before anything else. One council update during the 2022 floods read: Sister Tree Creek in Kin Kin has been closed due to public safety. Trees on soaked creek flats and gullies can tip in the next strong wind, so storm work starts at the root plate and with whether the block can be reached safely.
