Paperbarks on the foreshore, an avenue on the way in
Noosa Plan 2020 keeps the Boreen Point foreshore, with its open space and views over Lake Cootharaba, and preserves the native vegetation along it, particularly melaleucas and eucalypts which shade the area. Those paperbarks and gums are the village's character trees, so on the lakeside lots beside them the job is mostly pruning and deadwooding, and trees on the foreshore reserve itself are left to the council.
The approach into the village is protected as well. At the western end of Laguna Street the code keeps existing vegetation and adds street trees to enhance the natural avenue effect, so a frontage tree along that approach is far more likely to be pruned and made safe than taken out.
Lots facing Laguna Street, Boreen Parade and Urunga Parade carry a planting rule of their own. There the code expects landscaping with native tree species in the front 6 metres of the property, so tree work tied to a development keeps or replaces natives near the boundary rather than stripping that ground bare.

- 2
Someone comes to look
A tree contractor who covers your area sees the tree, the access and whatever is underneath it.

- 3
The council position is checked
Lot size, how close the tree is to the house and the mapping on the block decide whether an application comes first.

Boreen Point questions
Storm-cut roads, surge and the peninsula lots
How did the village come through the November 2025 storm?
Badly. After severe storms in November 2025, the SES Noosa local controller said Boreen Point was hit hard, with roads cut due to fallen trees and debris and people stranded at home. Storm work here can start with clearing trunks off the access before any house or yard is reached.
Can a storm surge reach the lakefront?
It can. As Tropical Cyclone Alfred neared in March 2025, Noosa Council warned that a surge could inundate some foreshores and adjacent roads at Boreen Point, a low-lying spot that often goes under in smaller river floods too. Trees left standing in ground that wet lose their grip, so leaning trunks and lifted root plates are checked before the next blow.
Why do big trees on the peninsula come down in pieces?
Because there is so little room. The code keeps the historical small lot pattern on the peninsula, with small homes on suspended floors or stepping down the slope and space between buildings for trees. With a house close on either side, a large tree is usually lowered piece by piece on ropes, and the gear may be carried in by hand from the street.
