Camphor laurels and a creek that floods
Camphor laurel crowds Nambour's creek banks. A local catchment group set out to remove weeds, particularly camphor laurel, along Petrie Creek, and another of its projects aimed to remove 30 camphor laurel trees from one short stretch of Namba Creek alone.
Petrie Creek runs through the middle of town, and the Bureau of Meteorology's flood table for the catchment records 9.31 metres at the Warana Bridge gauge in Nambour in June 1983. Trees on the creek flats can stand in waterlogged ground for days after a flood like that, which loosens their roots.

How it works
What happens after you get in touch
The council question is answered before the price, and nothing is booked until you have the quote in writing and have said yes to it.
- 1
Tell us about the tree
The suburb, what the tree stands near and what you would like done with it.

- 2
Someone comes to look
A tree contractor who covers your area sees the tree, the access and whatever is underneath it.

- 3
The council position is checked
Lot size, how close the tree is to the house and the mapping on the block decide whether an application comes first.

- 4
Quoted in writing
Scope, timber, stump and date set out on one page. Nothing is booked until you accept it.

Nambour questions
Rain, trucks and an old magnolia
Can a heavy load of branches go to the Nambour tip?
Not a heavy one. The Nambour Landfill and Recovery Centre does not accept trucks and waste over 4.5 tonnes while it is being upgraded, and the council sends heavier loads to Caloundra, which a contractor allows for on a big job.
How wet does it get here?
Very. In the July 1973 floods 384mm of rain was recorded in Nambour in a single day, more than at Maleny or Mapleton. Ground that wet is when big trees lean and go over.
What is the big tree opposite Currie Park?
A southern magnolia. The council's heritage library says the magnolia tree opposite Currie Park grew from a seed Daniel Currie planted in the early 1900s, and it flowers from November to January.
