Tree work in Pomona
Lava rock under the slopes, tall gums in the park
Mt Cooroora stands over the town, the highest point of Tuchekoi National Park at 439 metres. Noosa Council's notes for the Cooroora Trail say it was formed by the cooling and hardening of lava in a volcanic vent. On the slopes above Pomona the soil over that old rock can be thin and stony, so a stump grinder may meet rock before it reaches full depth, and a tree on steep ground comes down in sections on ropes rather than in one fall.
The same notes describe the park as open eucalypt forest and woodland running down into rainforest gullies, with blackbutt and tallowwood among its eucalypts. Both grow tall and carry heavy timber, so where one stands on a block next to the park, removing it is usually a climbing job, with each section rigged and lowered rather than dropped.
The village's main streets carry a planning rule of their own. Noosa Plan 2020's Hinterland Villages local plan code expects development beside Factory, Hill, Reserve and Station streets to protect existing vegetation within the road reserve, and to use landscaping that complements the local natural species. Before a tree at the front boundary on one of those streets is pruned or removed, the first question is whether it stands in the road reserve, where the council has the say.

How it works
What happens after you get in touch
The council question is answered before the price, and nothing is booked until you have the quote in writing and have said yes to it.
- 1
Tell us about the tree
The suburb, what the tree stands near and what you would like done with it.

- 2
Someone comes to look
A tree contractor who covers your area sees the tree, the access and whatever is underneath it.

- 3
The council position is checked
Lot size, how close the tree is to the house and the mapping on the block decide whether an application comes first.

- 4
Quoted in writing
Scope, timber, stump and date set out on one page. Nothing is booked until you accept it.

Pomona questions
Tip mornings, park burns and koala gums
When can green waste go to the Pomona tip?
Only on three mornings a week. The Pomona Waste Transfer Station on Pomona Kin Kin Road opens on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and it does not take building material. Its hours are 8am to 1pm, so branches cut on another day are chipped where they fall or carted further, to the shire's resource recovery centre.
Why is the bush on the edge of Pomona burnt?
To bring the fuel load down. Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service fire history shows a planned burn in Tuchekoi National Park, south of School Road, Pomona, and another in Yurol State Forest. The park burn was lit in June 2024 and the forest one in April 2020, so homes near either are worth having dead wood and low branches cut from nearby trees, and limbs over the roof taken back, before the fire season.
Do koalas change how a gum is taken down?
They can. The Cooroora Trail notes say a koala may be seen in the forks of the park's eucalypts, and under the state's koala conservation plan, clearing koala habitat trees means sequential clearing and having koala spotters present. Where that applies, a spotter is booked and the trees come down in order, which adds people and time to the day.
