Noosa Shire
Tree removal and tree services in Noosa
Noosa Shire runs its own planning scheme and its own tree rules, so a job in Noosa Heads, Noosaville, Tewantin or Cooroy is checked against Noosa's rules rather than the Sunshine Coast's.
Noosa Shire, not the Sunshine Coast
Where Noosa's rules differ
Noosa Shire Council's own page says its planning scheme requires a permit to clear vegetation on all private land in the shire, and that damaging or removing a protected tree is an offence unless a permit or an exemption applies.
Exempt clearing
Clearing can be exempt where it meets the Noosa Plan's definition of exempt clearing, or where it is within an approved building envelope, and the council's fact sheet sets out the detail.
Green waste and fire ants
Noosa has one resource recovery facility and two hinterland transfer stations, garden waste is charged, and the Noosa centre refuses green waste from an area with recent fire ant detections, so where the timber goes is settled before the job.
Koala habitat
Where a block sits in a south east Queensland koala priority area, the state's rules prohibit development that interferes with a koala habitat area unless it is exempt. Lopping a tree does not count as interfering; removing it can.
How it works
What happens after you get in touch
The council question is answered before the price, and nothing is booked until you have the quote in writing and have said yes to it.
- 1
Tell us about the tree
The suburb, what the tree stands near and what you would like done with it.

- 2
Someone comes to look
A tree contractor who covers your area sees the tree, the access and whatever is underneath it.

- 3
The council position is checked
Lot size, how close the tree is to the house and the mapping on the block decide whether an application comes first.

- 4
Quoted in writing
Scope, timber, stump and date set out on one page. Nothing is booked until you accept it.

Noosa questions
Overhanging branches and permits
Can the council tree hanging over my fence be cut back?
Not by you. Noosa Shire Council says owners need its authorisation before pruning overhanging branches, and where a council tree overhangs, pruning back to the boundary must be done by a qualified arborist (AQF level 3 minimum) to the Australian Standard.
Does every tree in Noosa need a permit?
Not every job ends in an application, because the Noosa Plan carries exemptions, but Noosa starts from a stricter position than the Sunshine Coast side does. The position for your tree is checked before a price is given.
