Tree work in North Maleny
Fairview's fig on the slope behind town
Council's heritage pages describe Fairview as a state heritage listed property located in North Maleny, owned and managed by council as part of the Maleny community precinct. The Queensland Heritage Register places the old timber farmhouse halfway down the steep slope which forms the backdrop to the township of Maleny. Ground that steep can keep trucks, chippers and elevated platforms away from a tree, so a job on these slopes may be climbed and rigged instead, with smaller machines and every cut section stopped from rolling downhill.
Its grounds hold old farm plantings. The register says the house is surrounded by mature trees including frangipani, avocados and a Moreton Bay fig, and that its fenced garden holds many more, among them a large Moreton Bay fig. These trees stand on council land inside a heritage place, so they are council's to manage, and a neighbour with a limb or roots across the boundary raises it with council rather than cutting on that side.

North Maleny questions
Porter's Wood and the planted creek banks
Is Porter's Wood heritage listed?
Yes. Council's planning scheme overlay maps Porter's Wood as a Local Heritage Place, and records its heritage type as trees and site. Cutting or removing those trees is assessed against council's heritage overlay rather than treated as routine work, and a job on neighbouring land keeps well clear of them.
Who manages the planting along Obi Obi Creek?
Council. It planted out the riparian areas along Obi Obi Creek inside its Maleny community precinct, which covers 126 hectares of former agricultural land, and finished that work in December 2014. The planting sits in an environmental protection area, so work on a tree nearby keeps debris and machinery out of the planted strip and off the creek banks.
